HOW TO APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID
Students applying for financial aid must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov/. Our school code is 014434. You
must submit your FAFSA by February 1 each year in order to meet the
priority deadline for the Access Missouri Grant. You must submit
your FAFSA by April 1 to meet the final deadline to be considered for
eligibility. Eligible students who apply between February 1 and April 1
will be awarded based on funding availability. We recommend that you file your FAFSA electronically and use the IRS data retrieval process. Schools no longer receive a paper FAFSA application.
Information from the FAFSA is used to calculate eligibility for a PELL grant. The maximum Pell grant for 2022-2023 is $6,895.
After
completing the FAFSA, if the student wants to apply for a student loan,
you must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance
Counseling at https://studentaid.gov/ At the end of each program you must complete Exit Counseling if you received any Direct Loans.
Subsidized Loans
are awarded based on financial need. You will not be charged interest
while you are in school. The federal government "subsidizes" (or pays)
the interest during these times. Upon graduation interest will begin
accruing.
Un-subsidized Loans
are not awarded based on financial needs. Any eligible student can take
out Un-subsidized Loan. Interest is charged time the loan is disbursed,
to the time the loan is repaid in full.
The maximum annual
Subsidized Loan limit is $3,500. The maximum annual Un-subsidized Loan
limit for a dependent is $2,000. The maximum annual Un-subsidized Loan
limit for an independent is $6,000. If the parent of a dependent student
is denied a PLUS loan, the student is then eligible for $6,000 in
Un-subsidized loans.
If you are a dependent student and your
parent(s) want to apply for a PLUS Loan the parent must complete complete a credit check and a PLUS Loan
MPN at https://studentaid.gov/.
The PLUS Loan is a fixed rate loan available to an eligible parent of a
dependent undergraduate student enrolled in a participating post-secondary school. A PLUS Loan borrower must be creditworthy or must
obtain a creditworthy endorser on the loan. A PLUS Loan allows parents
to borrow the total cost of undergraduate education including tuition,
room and board, supplies, lab expenses, and travel less any other aid.
If the loan disbursement amount exceeds your child's school charges, the
school will pay you the remaining balance of the disbursement directly
by check. In some cases, with your permission, the school may disburse
some of the PLUS Loan money directly to the student. The yearly limit on a
PLUS Loan is equal to your cost of attendance minus any other financial
aid the student will receive. Interest is charged on Direct PLUS Loans
during all periods, beginning on the date of your loan's first
disbursement.
If you take out any private loans you must notify the Financial Aid office.
